One of the toughest aspects of losing weight is trying to figure out what exactly to eat—this can be especially problematic when you’re already pretty hungry and you haven’t the slightest clue about what to snack on—and there’s “nothing” in the fridge. That’s often the time that you might make the mistake of stopping at your favorite fast food joint for a burger—or even worse, a side of fries (gasp!). :-)

Fat Burning Breakfast #2: Yogurt with Berries

For many people, yogurt seems like such a great diet food. I mean, you have all of those low-fat and no fat varieties with delicious and tasty flavors making yogurt a really great snack if you’re trying to lose weight…right? Well, the real answer is not necessarily.

If we consider the more popular yogurt brands like Yoplait and Dannon, it’s not hard to see that you can easily surpass a healthy amount of sugar in a day. We’ll start with Yoplait Originals—these yogurts have 26 grams of sugar per 6 ounce container. The “Light” versions aren’t that much better at 14 grams of sugar and they all have “natural flavors” and added food coloring.

Reduce Inflammation, Fight Cancer: Ginger Chicken Stir Fry

A good stir fry is a great way to enjoy a variety of vegetables without having to cook them all separately. In this stir fry I’ve added ginger which brings a lot of zest and great flavor to the dish.

Now, we can’t talk about the flavor of ginger without also letting you know about its amazing health benefits.

It is well documented that people that eat functional (or bioactive) foods lower their risk for chronic disease (1). Functional foods that are readily available are things like green tea, flax, broccoli, cabbage, tomatoes, raspberries, onions, garlic, and of course ginger.

Ginger contains components—mainly manganese and copper—that scavenge free radicals (2). If you don’t know what a free radical is, it’s basically a substance that wipes out your cellular equilibrium which can cause oxidative stress and inflammation. The stress on the body as well as the inflammation can damage your DNA (3) and is the cause of many diseases that we’ve encountered in the 21st century. (more…)

Skip the Fast Food: Get Nutrients and More Flavor In These Delicious Veggie Burgers

Burgers are an American favorite (and one of my favorites). I love a delicious and hearty grass-fed beef burger every now and then. But if I want to go for something a bit lighter, a veggie burger is my best friend.
